Is Zoho Sign HIPAA compliant?
Yes, if you request Zoho's business associate agreement and the executed document names Zoho Sign — Zoho says the agreement itself defines which of its services are covered.

What you must do
- Email legal@zohocorp.com for Zoho's business associate agreement template before sending anything for signature that identifies a patient.
- Confirm the executed agreement names Zoho Sign. Zoho states the agreement 'defines the specific Zoho services covered', so scope comes from the signed document rather than from any list on the website.
- Treat the listing as conditional. Zoho's wording is that its services 'provide features that support HIPAA compliance when configured and used appropriately' — the features are available, not switched on.
- Name each further Zoho product separately. A Zoho One subscription does not extend the agreement to Zoho Mail, Zoho Forms or Zoho WorkDrive by itself.
- Restrict who can retrieve completed documents, and set a retention period rather than leaving signed agreements in the account indefinitely.
Does Zoho Sign sign a business associate agreement?
Yes. Zoho offers one. None stated. Zoho's HIPAA page names no plan or edition requirement, which is unusual in this category. Contact legal@zohocorp.com to request Zoho's business associate agreement template.
What this means in practice
Zoho's position is genuinely more open than most of this category: it will sign, and it names Zoho Sign among the services it says support HIPAA compliance. What it does not do is publish the scope. Zoho says the agreement defines which services are covered, which means the only document that answers the question is the one you have executed, not the page you read before signing.
That has a practical consequence for anyone buying Zoho One. Coverage does not spread across the suite because the suite is one subscription. If patient documents are signed in Zoho Sign and the resulting PDFs land in Zoho WorkDrive and the notification goes through Zoho Mail, three products touched the information and the agreement has to name all three.
How organizations get this wrong
The specific mistakes we see with Zoho Sign, not generic advice.
- Treating Zoho's HIPAA page as the covered-services list. It is a directory of products with HIPAA guides, not a contractual scope.
- Assuming the free or lowest tier is eligible because no plan requirement is published. Silence is not permission — ask.
- Signing for Zoho Sign alone while the signed documents come to rest in another Zoho product.
- Putting the patient's name and the procedure in the document title, which then travels in every notification email the workflow sends.
What the agreement does not cover
- Any Zoho service the executed agreement does not name.
- Configuration. Zoho conditions its HIPAA statement on the service being configured and used appropriately, and does not publish that configuration on the HIPAA page itself.
- The content of what you send. Document titles and signer names travel in notification email like any other e-signature product.
